The Prisoner of Silence

The Prisoner Of Silence.

I am a prisoner of your silence,
The victim of state sanctioned violence,
I have no name, I am not here,
I am the Non-Person,
You will not see and will not hear,
I am a ghost in your machine,
I am the silence in the wake of the scream,
I must do as I am told,
I am a slave to be bought and sold,
My flesh is yours to whip and wound,
You will murder me with a moral smile.

I wear my badge that you have made,
I am your scapegoat in the mad parade,
Take down my name and make a list,
Take my life with a single tick,
I am the Non-Person that none shall miss,
Democracy kneels for its neck shot,
Before a fresh dug shallow ditch,
I am an animal in your cage,
I have no rights and may be slain.

This was a powerful poem. But it has to be said that the speaker could also be the women who are oppressed in those societies...some of their oppressors were probably among those "tortured" in the prisons.
